New ferry still needs ramp permit
A company setting up a new car ferry service from Jersey to St Malo still has not got a harbour ramp licence, despite having tickets already on sale.

HD Ferries is launching its service in mid-March and will end Condor Ferries' monopoly on the route.

Deputy Alan Maclean from the States' Economic Development Department said the new service was welcomed, but some details still needed working out.

HD's catamaran will take up to 100 cars, 400 passengers and freight.

Competition encouraged

UK-based HD Ferries started selling tickets on its website on Wednesday.

HD Ferries says it is to have at least three sailings a week on its services between Jersey, Guernsey and St Malo from mid-March.

The company said it would be operating a daily service between March and September and three sailings a week in the winter.

Another company, Corsair, is planning a passenger-only service this summer.

Jersey authorities have been attempting to encourage other companies to start a rival service to Condor since Emeraude pulled out last year.
