Discussion over ferry competition
Passengers have been told prices will not be allowed to change too much with only one car ferry operating in Jersey.

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf is concerned costs might increase now Condor Ferries is the only company running services to the UK and France.

He does not want fluctuating prices and has spoken to the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA).

Emeraude Ferries confirmed on Thursday it was mothballing its route between Jersey and St Malo in France.

Emeraude said it had lost millions of euros since 2003 when the States allowed Condor Ferries to compete on the route.

Prices could be controlled by the JCRA which was set up by the States of Jersey in 2001 and is responsible for administering and enforcing the Competition (Jersey) Law 2005.
