Ferry line lays off island staff
Thirty-three jobs have been lost after a ferry company announced it was laying off all its staff in Jersey.

Emeraude Ferries has had difficulties in finding a replacement passenger ferry to run the route between the island and St Malo in France.

Jersey staff were told on Friday that there was no work for them.

The company, which said it was not closing, will continue to look for a new boat. The Channel Island manager said it was a sad day for everyone.

Some employees in France will also lose their jobs, although the exact number is not known.
