Watchdog urges price rise rethink
Jersey's Consumer Council (JCC) has said proposed price increases in electricity go against previous promises made by Jersey Electric.

The company said bills may need to go up by 25%, but the consumer council said that only last year it was talking about increases of under 10%.

JCC chairman Alan Breckon said that, as a monopoly provider, Jersey Electric should be more restrained in pricing.

He wants an urgent meeting with the firm to reconsider the new increases.

Jersey Electricity, which is partly owned by Jersey States, said the cost of electricity, which is imported from Europe, has gone up by 55%.
