About 20,000 is being spent to establish Jersey as a cruise liner destination and to promote it to those in the industry. UK specialist John Drysdale is starting a study for the Harbours Department which will be funded by a grant from the Tourism Department.
He has already suggested larger cruise liners could anchor off Bouley Bay.
Assistant Harbour Master Peter Moore supports the concept and expects more liners to visit Jersey.
With only shallow sheltered anchorages, the island has struggled to attract the larger vessels which often visit Guernsey.
