Jersey incinerator claim denied
A claim that Jersey's Bellozanne incinerator could be used beyond 2008 to burn rubbish has been dismissed by the committee responsible for waste.

The Environment and Public Services Committee has officially responded to a scrutiny report into how Jersey will deal with its waste in the future.

The report claimed one of the three burners could be used until 2020.

But the committee says even with increased recycling, the burner could not cope on its own.

It says the incinerator at Bellozanne must be replaced by 2008, but a Shadow Scrutiny Panel claims not enough attention has been given to how the incinerator would be paid for if the plans went ahead.

The panel has suggested partly privatising it.
