Manual workers on St Helier have downed tools as talks begin to resolve a dispute over shift changes for refuse collectors in the parish. The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft wants to introduce an afternoon collection round.
It would mean three workers switching their hours and the union has demanded unsocial hours payments.
Refuse collectors, road sweepers, gardeners and masons say they will not be working until talks are concluded.
Union head Nick Corbel is meeting the Constable and plans to speak to the States Human Resources section.
He claims the workers are also unhappy about two of their colleagues not having their contracts renewed.
He said: "That is a breach of an agreement we made on Friday afternoon and it has caused a lot of stress."
Mr Crowcroft said he would comment after the talks.
