Bookings halted on St Malo route
Ferry
The Solidor Five is undergoing engine repairs
New doubts have arisen over the future of one of Jersey's ferry services to St Malo after it stopped taking bookings for all its future sailings.

Emeraude Ferries has also been forced to cancel all its services until at least 19 December while the Solidor 5 undergoes emergency repairs.

The firm says it cannot afford a replacement boat on the loss-making route to the continent.

Emeraude says it still hopes to find a replacement for the Christmas break.

Oysterman's headache

The company has sustained heavy losses on the Jersey to St Malo route for the past two years.

It blames the opening up of the route to competition with Condor Ferries in March 2003.

A Jersey oyster farmer says he has lost customers in France because of problems with the service.

Doug le Masurier had booked 60 tonnes of oysters on Solidor 5 last month.

He says he has already had to cancel orders and try and find new customers.

He says the government should intervene and make sure his and other fish companies that export to France can use a reliable service to deliver their produce.
