Almost half of all patients surveyed at Jersey General Hospital have been found to be suffering from malnutrition according to hospital dieticians. They looked at 367 patients admitted to four wards last year of whom 42% were found to have a form of malnutrition.
They concluded that living alone, a bad diet and an ageing population were all factors in the findings.
Nurses say that as a result of the research hospital staff are now keeping a closer eye on those at risk.
The results are similar to levels in the UK where research suggests 40% of patients have the same sort of problems.
