No States cash for new hospital
Jersey General Hospital
The proposed site is near Jersey's General Hospital
The developers behind a private hospital planned for Jersey have been told not to expect any financial help or support from the States.

The new hospital is to be located in St Helier, close to the General Hospital.

The President of Health and Social Services, Senator Stuart Syvret, said he does not think the private facilities are necessary.

He said the island's General Hospital has sufficient capacity for the needs of all islanders.

Senator Syvret said he was concerned the developers appeared to imply they were looking for a partnership with the States to construct the new hospital, but says no funding or support will be given.

Deputy Terry Le Main had expressed concerns that the island's tax payer may be subsidising the new hospital by allowing it to share some facilities and specialists at the General Hospital.

However, members of the Health and Social Services Committee assured him they will not be forced into any deal by the developer.
