Thieves make off with poppy money
Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
A legion member says many islanders benefit from the appeal
Thieves have stolen a Royal British Legion poppy collection box from a shop in Jersey.

The money was taken from the Checkers Xpress branch in Longueville Road on Wednesday morning.

Jersey Police said they are looking for two boys aged between 15 and 17 who were seen in the area at the time of the theft.

A member of the island's Royal British Legion described the theft of the charity box as "disgusting".

Owen Wiscombe said he was appalled by the act and hoped the thieves could live with themselves.

He told BBC News: "The whole team are disgusted. We've got a hell of a lot of pensioners and this money is highly beneficial to them.

"The theft means that 80-year-olds are being deprived."

Meanwhile, more events are taking place to raise money for the appeal.

Lady Cheshire, the wife of the island's Lieutenant Governor, will present a cheque to the appeal on behalf of the Jersey Military Vehicle Club.
