Centenier recruitment a problem
The commitment of parishes to providing honorary police officers in Jersey could have to change in the future, according to one island official.

A number of parishes have been experiencing problems recruiting volunteers for the honorary service.

St Lawrence Constable Geoffrey Fisher said his parish had found it increasingly difficult to provide its quota of four centeniers.

He said other parishes had also been in the same situation.

Find alternative

"St Helier was having difficulty recruiting and were threatened with a fine some weeks ago," he said.

"I think St John is virtually in that position now in that they are likely to be fined.

"I have been talking to my fellow constables in those parishes and we are going to look at the whole issue.

"We will probably get through the difficulty this time round and maybe next time round, but there is going to come a time when maybe we need to find another way."
