The Chamber agrees with plans for a 3% sales tax |
Local businesses in Jersey claim their confidence in the economy will improve if the States speeds up its economic plans, according to a new survey. The survey was carried out by the island's Chamber of Commerce, which asked its members for their views on government reform and policies.
There were 92 responses. More than half thought new rates of tax - including a planned 3% sales tax - were needed.
But 75% felt the pace of government reform was happening too slowly.
However, 70% said forthcoming reforms of Jersey's government, including a move to a ministerial system of government, were important for business.
The island's new VAT-style Goods and Services Tax is due to be introduced in 2008.
Ten ministries will replace the current 15 government committees in December 2005, following a general election.
