Senator tries to cut tax on goods
Another attempt is being made by a Jersey politician to exclude some items from the island's planned VAT-style Goods and Services Tax.

Senator Stuart Syvret does not think people should have to pay the levy on some foods, children's clothing, medical services, books and newspapers.

He said the tax would hit the island's poorest the hardest and that essential items must be excluded to protect them.

The new 3% tax is due to be introduced in three years' time.

This is the second time Senator Syvret has put forward the exclusion proposals. His previous attempt saw his proposals being rejected by 32 votes to 14 earlier this year in the House.
