Three of Jersey's offshore reefs have officially become some of the world's most important ecological sites. Les Ecrehous, Les Minquiers and the Paternosters have become designated "Ramsar" sites.
The sites were earmarked as Ramsar sites in 2000 and now they have been formally recognised as wetlands of international importance.
There are more than 1,400 sites protected by the UN Ramsar convention across the world in 150 countries.
The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, provides a framework for international co-operation for the conservation of wetlands and their resources.
