Reef protection is in spotlight
People are learning about proposals to make islands off Jersey designated areas of environmental importance.

Plans to make the Ecrehous, Les Minquiers and Les Pierres de Lecq official Ramsar sites are to be discussed at a public meeting.

In 2000, part of the island's south east coast won international recognition as a designated site of importance to the environment.

The meeting is at Grouville Parish Hall at 1930 GMT on Wednesday.

Jersey is one of 113 countries signed up to the United Nations Ramsar Convention, which aims to protect wetlands of international ecological importance.

At the meeting there will be a short presentation about the benefits of listing these sites under the convention and what designation as a Ramsar site involves.
