Early jail release plans proposed
People in Jersey are being asked what they think of plans to free convicts before they serve all their sentences.

The politician in charge of the prison service, Senator Wendy Kinnard, is holding a series of meetings to discuss plans for a criminal justice policy.

Under the new plans, criminals could be freed from prison after serving half their sentence, whereas currently they have to serve at least two thirds.

It is claimed they would then be better supervised by the probation service.

Senator Kinnard said because the island did not currently have a criminal justice policy, it was important islanders were told more about it.

She is also inviting members of the States to contribute.
