A sculpture marking 800 years of Jersey's links with the Crown is to be unveiled on Thursday evening. The granite column sculpture was broken in half earlier this week when sub-contractors working for Public Services were moving it into place.
It has been repaired in time for its unveiling at Charing Cross in St Helier by the Bailiff, Sir Phillip Bailhache.
But officials hope insurance will cover the cost of a new column which could be more than 10,000.
The sculpture was damaged when it fell from a crane after a lifting pin dropped out.
The column features a code of law from the time when a prison existed in the Charing Cross area between 1698 and 1812.
It also recalls unusual offences and harsh punishments handed out.
