Jerseyman to collect royal honour

A Jerseyman is being honoured by the Queen for his services to disability sport on the island.

The Chairman of the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled is in London to be appointed an MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Paul Patterson plays an important role in the annual Jersey Disability Games and the Disability Sports Awards.

In 2003 he was voted Jersey's Community Worker of the Year by the local branch of the National Union of Journalists.

He formed the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled in 1985 to encourage and support local disabled people.

He was one of three islanders to be listed in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Allan Smith, the Chief Executive of the Channel Island Co-op was honoured for his services to the community and for the charity work he does overseas.

Edward Trevor was also listed. He recently moved to Jersey and is being awarded for his work with his former community in Sutton in Surrey.
