A man who has dedicated much of his time to encouraging people with disabilities in Jersey to get involved in sport has been honoured for his work. Paul Patterson, the chairman of the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled, has been made community worker of the year by the local branch of the National Union of Journalists.
Mr Patterson received the Norman Le Brocq award for the work he has done to bring so-called disabled games into mainstream competition.
He was nominated and voted for by the island's media.
There was also a prize for foster mother Ellen Nicolle who died last week.
Ms Nicolle set up the Jersey Children's Holiday Group - taking disadvantaged children on holiday.
