A Jersey homeless organisation says rising numbers of young people are seeking its help. As well as drug and alcohol problems, the Shelter Trust is blaming high accommodation costs.
The Shelter Trust has around 80 beds at addresses around St Helier to house people who have nowhere else to stay.
Those who have sought help used to be mainly men in their 40s and 50s but now the shelter says a third of those they look after are aged between 16 and 25.
Assistant general manager Kevin O'Donnell believes the cost of accommodation is a barrier for young people trying to get back on their feet.
The Trust is hoping for more States assistance to help rehouse the young people who come through its doors.
