Homeless group asks for funds help
Homeless man
The trust costs about 750,000 a year to run
A Jersey charity which helps homeless people is looking for more funds and fundraisers.

The Shelter Trust is setting up a group of non-trustees, called the Friends of The Shelter Trust.

The trust already runs four sites in St Helier and an outreach service which provides food for people who sleep rough at night. It is currently working on a new building.

The trust's chairman, Jurat Nick Herbert, says it is important more people get involved so that more money is found to help the charity.

He said of the new group: "The main purpose is to help us with funding.

"But I would like to feel that there is another circle of people who are interested in the work and are willing to give some of their time.

"It's not only funding-raising, but also giving advice and giving other people news about what the trust does."

About 400 people were helped by the service in 2002, which costs about 750,000 a year to run.
