Village opposing plans for houses
A builder at work
The number of planned houses had risen to 87 at one point
Residents of a Jersey parish are meeting on Tuesday night to fight the building of more than 70 new homes.

The development, on three fields close to the centre of St Peter's village, has been on the cards ever since the Island Plan was published in 2001.

The Environment and Public Services Committee was to consider the plans on Thursday, but that has been postponed until all members can be present.

A meeting is being held to oppose the development at St Peter Parish Hall.

The Island Plan, an outline of how land in Jersey should be used to best effect, was published in 2001.

The number of dwellings planned for the area has gone up and down. Only 55 were considered to start with. That rose to 68 when the Island Plan was finalised.

The number then rose to 87 when specific plans for the site were published, a figure which after further revision has now fallen back to 74.
