Lifeboats in Jersey were called out on Sunday to rescue two speedboats which had both run out of fuel. The first incident involved a boat which was stranded about one mile west of the Seymour Tower.
The boat, including its two occupants, was towed back in to shore by the St Catherine's lifeboat.
On Sunday evening the St Helier lifeboat rescued four people on board a speedboat about two and a half miles south of Demi des Pas beacon.
Port officials claim neither of the speedboats had enough lifejackets, flares or lights. There are no laws in Jersey requiring leisure boat users to take adequate safety equipment when they go to sea.
But Assistant Harbourmaster Peter Lawrence said failing to take precautions is irresponsible.
He added: "It's not just their lives they risk when they go out there - it's the people who have to come and rescue them.
"The lifeboat service is an honorary service. People volunteer for the job and they are prepared to risk their lives to save people at sea.
"It's very inconsiderate of some boat users to put themselves in a position where they need to be rescued.
