Many prisoners in Jersey are from the mainland |
A call is being made for churches in Jersey to support prisoners and their families. The voluntary agency Prison Fellowship has recently been set up in the island.
The aim of the Prison Fellowship is to support prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families as well as victims and their families.
As many prisoners in Jersey are from the mainland, the group raises money to help fund families to come for visits.
It also helps to buy Christmas gifts for prisoners to give to their children.
Jane Furgus and Sister Hilary from the Catholic Pastoral Services at St Thomas' Church are trying to encourage different churches across the island to get involved with the work they do.
There is an open meeting on 1930 BST on Sunday at St Thomas' Church Hall for all clergy and congregation members who want to find out more.
