Reports of repeat offences of domestic violence are down
People suffering from domestic violence in Jersey are being encouraged to report it to the police.

Officers say the number of people reporting cases of violence in the home is increasing, but reports of repeat offences last year were down.

Jersey's Women's Refuge and the police will hand out booklets this week in English and Portuguese.

They contain information to help people become more aware of how to deal with domestic violence.

Detective Sergeant Peter Barney, from Jersey's domestic violence unit, said: "The increase in the number of people reporting cases of domestic violence is due to the campaigns.

"We hope the campaigns are successful in giving people the courage to come forward.

"They are helping people recognise what domestic violence is and prevent domestic violence from re-occurring."
