Island targets domestic violence
Domestic violence generic
A domestic violence co-ordinator is being introduced in Jersey.

The post is to improve the help available to victims of domestic violence.

The full-time job, paid for by a local bank, has been created by what is soon to become the Jersey Domestic Violence Forum.

The move follows a conference for agencies that work with cases of violence in the home.

Guest speaker, Detective Inspector Joyce Green from Lancashire, said: "There could actually be more sharing of information, more sharing of data, to really establish the whole size of the problem."

Last year 700 cases of domestic violence were reported to Jersey Police.

It is thought the domestic violence co-ordinator will be based at the Victim Support offices in Jersey.

The forum will soon begin recruiting for a person to fill the post.
