Reserve Fund used for met office
Met office
The met office currently employs 21 staff at its airport base
Jersey's Reserve Fund has been used to keep the island's meteorological office running for the rest of 2004.

About 600,000 was required from the General Reserve because the office is now being run by a different committee.

Jersey Met is now the responsibility of the Environment and Public Services Committee after previously being run by the island's airport.

The cash was needed because Environment and Public Services had not included the department in its budget.

Talks are also taking place to make the department smaller.

The General Reserve is used to cover what are described by the States as "unforeseen contingencies".

About 1.2m has been used from the fund so far this year.

It has also been used for the Finance Industry Fund, 2005's Liberation Day parade and anti-terrorism equipment for the island's fire service.
