Jobs to go at Met Office
Met Office
The Met Office currently employs 21 staff at its airport base
The future of Jersey's Met Office has been assured.

But it is understood the service will have to reduce its workforce by nearly a third.

Six positions will be lost through voluntary redundancy.

The Met Office currently employs 21 people.

Fewer people

The jobs will go as part of an agreement reached by three States committees - Harbours and Airport, Environment and Public Services and Finance and Economics - that the island needs a Jersey-based Met Office, but one that costs less to run.

Responsibility for the Met Office will now switch to the Environment and Public Services Committee.

Committee president, Deputy Maurice Dubras, said fewer people were needed to run the service.

The Met Office will remain based at the island's airport.
