Guernsey's weather forecast may soon come from France or the UK if charges are introduced by the Jersey Met Office. The move was proposed some time ago to cover part of the �1.2m it costs the Met Office to run the regional service.
Guernsey could be faced with an annual bill of about �300,000 if it is to continue to receive daily weather updates from the Met Office in Jersey.
Up until now, the service has been provided free of charge to the public, with some funding coming out of airport dues.
Recover costs
The Met Office is now seeking to recover the expense for the service.
The charges will come into force at the beginning of next year.
However, Jersey's Airport director Mike Lanyon said it may be cheaper for Guernsey to go elsewhere.
"They may seek a service from the UK which may be cheaper than doing it from Jersey," he said.
