A rider and a spectator died in an accident at the 2007 TT races

A group set up to help plan Manx motorsports events, including its famous TT, is having a "tremendous impact", the chief constable says.

The TT Festival and Motorsport Arrangements Group (TTFMAG), set up two months ago, includes police and government representatives.

It follows criticism of the TT organisation by coroner Michael Moyles after three people died at the 2007 TT.

The group will help implement Mr Moyles' recommendations.

It also looks at traffic management, spectator safety, training provision, wet weather contingencies, legislation, communication, insurance, promotion and commercial activity.

Chief Constable Mike Langdon, of Isle of Man police, said: "Members are responsible for the intricate arrangements surrounding the TT and other high-profile motorsport events.

"Along with the coroner's inquest, this group has been instrumental in developing and modernising the approach for future events in terms of safety.

"It is already having a tremendous impact."
