Three people were killed during the centenary Isle of Man TT event in 2007 |
Event organisers on the Isle of Man have been honing their safety skills ahead of this year's TT festival. Representatives from 14 organisations attended a three-day safety seminar in Douglas this week, organised by the Department of Home Affairs. The course covered topics such as crowd dynamics, operational planning, risk assessment and liability issues. Ch Insp Peter Young said it was important that people who organised large events had been properly trained. Rider Marc Ramsbotham, 34, of Wymondham, Norfolk, died in a crash on the final day of the races in June. Spectators Dean Jacob, 33, of Kidderminster, and Gregory Kenzig, 52, from Australia, were also killed. Ch InspYoung said: "We're all aware of the tragic incident that happened last year, and there is an awful lot of guidance and books out there that tell you how you should be organising events. "The majority of people who do these quite big events are unaware of restrictions on them, unaware of help available to them should they want to run an event. "For many of the people who came on the course, it's given them a point of contact of where they can get help and how they can improve their events."
