Plea for Grand Prix race marshals
Riders on the TT course during Thursday's practice sessions
The deaths overshadowed an otherwise fatality free festival
Organisers of the Manx Grand Prix are trying to encourage marshals to sign up to officiate at this year's race.

It is thought many were deterred after a marshal was arrested as part of a police inquiry into a crash at the TT races, in which three people died.

But the Attorney General recommended dropping the manslaughter investigation and did not bring the case to court.

The Clerk of the Course said there is a sense of relief among organisers, and is appealing for marshals to sign up.

After the news of an arrest in connection with the accident, many worried marshalls decided not to sign up for this year's Grand Prix, prompting concerns the event might not go ahead.

But now Clerk of the Course Neil Hanson is urging people to volunteer.

'Welcome statement'

He said: "It caused great concern throughout the race organisation and with the marshalls. We were very concerned that we would not be able to marshal this years Manx Grand Prix sufficiently.

"So we welcome the statement by the Manx Constabulary that the police investigation is no longer a criminal investigation, and no criminal charges are being contemplated."

Rider Marc Ramsbotham, 34, and two spectators - Dean Jacob, 33, and Gregory Kenzig, 52 - were killed in an accident on the 26th milestone.

The matter will now be considered by the Isle of Man Health and Safety Inspectorate.
