Sports centre to open on island

A sports centre for people with learning and physical disabilities is set to open on the Isle of Man.

The Project 21 centre will open in Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, thanks to the combined efforts of five special needs charities on the island.

The centre will have a large hall suitable for sports and social functions, two meeting and activity rooms and a computer suite.

It will be in use from 1 September with an official opening on 16 October.

Building began on the centre in August 2005 and has cost an estimated �1.5m.

Director of Project 21, Eelen Karran, said the charities involved in the project are Manx Mencap, The Manx Gateway Club, Down's Syndrome Isle of Man, Isle of Man Special Olympics and Autism in Mann.
