Takeover threatens Manx air jobs
BA plane at Isle of Man airport
The BA Connect services stopped last year
More than 200 jobs on a former BA Connect engineering base on the Isle of Man are under threat after a takeover.

Flybe has bought out the airline, which operates several flights to the UK, and has decided it does not need the staff to maintain its aircraft.

The Isle of Man's Minister for Trade and Industry says he is "making every effort" to minimise job losses.

Flybe is currently in talks with a number of companies about buying the plant, saving a number of jobs.

However, it is thought that even if a suitable buyer is found it would be unlikely all the engineering jobs would be saved.

Staff concerns

Minister David Cretney said: "I and my department will make this our top priority to assist these staff in finding suitable local employment.

"I am keen to meet with the affected staff soon to listen to their concerns and ensure we tailor our response to their needs."

The government says five companies have made enquiries about acquiring the facility and a significant proportion of the engineering staff.

Flybe has said it will retain the 40 people who work as flight and cabin crew as well as line engineers.
