Arsonists target recycling banks
fire-gutted bin
Council staff have withdrawn recycling facilities
Environmental measures put in place for the Isle of Man's TT race have been scrapped after arsonists set fire to recycling facilities on the island.

The recycling banks, next to Noble Park, were destroyed in the attack in the early hours of Monday.

Following the incident, council staff have decided to withdraw all green facilities from the park's entrance.

Anyone now wishing to recycle in the Douglas area will have to use one of the town's permanent recycling sites.

Joanne Hetherington, Department of Local Government and the Environment's recycling officer, said: "It is extremely disappointing that the bins have been destroyed in this way.

"Whoever carried out this vandalism showed absolutely no concern for public safety or the island's environment."

Police officers have been carrying out house to house enquiries.
