Essential roadworks will go ahead
Windy corner
The road could be closed for about eight weeks
Attempts to postpone roadworks at an Isle of Man accident blackspot have failed in the House of Keys.

Eddie Teare, Ayre MHK, tabled a motion to delay the closure of Mountain Road between Brandywell and Creg-Ny-Baa for the work at Windy Corner.

Members of the house on Tuesday voted 10 to seven in favour of the Department of Transport's current plans.

It means the road will be closed, as scheduled, for up to two months from Monday 13 March.

The government has previously said the road needs to be closed to ensure the safety of its workers.

Windy Corner is to be widened and the curve smoothed out as part of the project, which is expected to cost about 200,000.
