Blackspot road works reorganised
Windy corner
The road will be closed for about five weeks
Road works on one of the Isle of Man's accident blackspots have been reorganised after complaints from drivers over expected disruption.

Mountain Road from Brandywell to Creg-Ny-Baa will be closed while work is carried out at Windy Corner.

The closure has now been put back a week until Monday 13 March while temporary traffic lights are removed from Laxey to minimise road delays.

The government said the closure was essential for worker safety.

Windy Corner is to be widened and the curve smoothed out as part of the project, which is expected to cost about 200,000 and take about five weeks to finish.

Transport minister Phil Braidwood said that traffic-calming measures have been put in place from the top of Minorca Hill through to the top of Old Laxey Hill to deter motorists from taking a short cuts through Old Laxey.

In addition, Captain's Hill will be re-opened to enable the bus service to Glen Road to be reinstated.
