Noble's Hospital saw 17,000 outpatients last year
Patients on the Isle of Man who fail to keep their hospital appointments are affecting the efficiency of the island's health service, bosses say.

The annual hospital report to Tynwald reveals that 8.8% of patients missed their appointments - up on the previous year's figure of 8.4%.

The figures relate to those who failed to let Noble's Hospital know that they could not make their slot.

Anne Craine MHK said she was "disappointed" with the increase.

Ms Craine, member of health, said: "The health service is continuing to develop new ways of contacting patients to try to encourage them not to miss appointments.

"I would ask all patients who have an appointment and who are unable to attend to notify the hospital as soon as possible, so that their appointment can be reallocated."

A total of 12,728 patients were admitted to the hospital last year and there were 17,357 outpatient appointments.
