Alcohol blamed for crime figures
A rise in Guernsey's crime figures has been blamed on alcohol.

The latest figures for the island show that in 2005, crime was at its second highest recorded level.

Deputy Al Brouard says the statistics, quoted in a study of quality of life, has left him "numb" and the States should make the issue a priority.

Home Minister Mike Torode said progress had been made with serious crime like drug smuggling. He has blamed the rise on drink-related crime.
