Patrols call to stop petty crime
A Guernsey deputy is calling for tougher measures to combat problems with petty crime.

The Castel has suffered several reports of instances of anti-social behaviour over the past several weeks.

Castel Deputy Eric Walters said he believed more that having bobbies on the beat would deter would-be criminals from targeting property.

Guernsey Police said high-visibility foot patrols were part of the force's strategic priorities.

Community policing

Deputy Walters said incidents that had been reported in the parish included vehicles' tyres being slashed, telephone boxes and toilets being damaged, and golf balls being thrown at houses.

Guernsey Police said that a permanent beat system, or community policing, was included in its strategic priorities.

They said the system would involve the force working in partnership with the community to develop and extend the permanent beat system to cover specific areas.

The force added that it would also mean an increase in high-visibility foot patrols.
