Phone firms told to share masts

Both phone operators are being told to co-operate more in the future
Guernsey's two mobile phone companies have been told that they must co-operate and share phone masts by the island's utility watchdog.

The Office of Utility Regulation (OUR) demand follows an investigation into a recent dispute between Cable and Wireless (C&W) and Wave Telecom.

Wave claimed C&W had failed to respond for six months to a request to share its mast at Les Vardes quarry.

It said sharing masts was important to reduce their impact on the environment.

Although the OUR ruled in favour of Wave, it said it had instructed both operators to co-operate better in future.

It said it was taking steps to prevent such incidents happening again.
