A Guernsey telecoms company claims islanders should not be concerned over the size of a new mast at Perelle. Wave Telecom is proposing to build a base station at Patris in the Route de la Marette and says the mast will not be particularly large.
Managing director Tim Ringsdore believes that, at 7m high, it will be at the smaller end of the scale.
"It's on an existing bunker and we're planning to put up a small transmitter which looks like a flagpole," he said.
The masts come in different shapes and sizes and are used to fill in gaps within the mobile phone network.
A recent audit, commissioned by Guernsey's Office of Utility Regulation (OUR), found that the Bailiwick's telephone masts are well within the national safety standards for emissions.
