States questions airport dispute
Industrial action being taken by firefighters at Guernsey Airport has been described as "beyond comprehension" by States authorities.

The dispute over pay has led to a refusal by fire crews to do any overtime other than emergency cover.

Passenger safety is not compromised, but there may be delays for passengers if the airport cannot stay open after hours because of a lack of fire cover.

The issue has been passed to the island's industrial disputes officer.

Under Guernsey law, there is a six-week deadline for the parties to reach a settlement.

Airlines are calling for a swift resolution to the dispute.

Firefighters have given an assurance that any industrial action would not affect emergency medical flights to and from Alderney.
