Alderney monitors puffin numbers
A steering group has been set up to monitor the decreasing number of puffins on Alderney.

Numbers have fallen over the past 30 years and now officials on the island want to know why.

There is speculation it could be to do with global warming and the increasing number of sea gulls seen on Burhou, where Alderney's puffins migrate from.

Research is being carried out to try to halt the decline and look at why the population is decreasing.

A recent survey by the RSPB showed that the number of puffins on Guernsey has halved since 1992.
