David Jeremiah has worked as an attorney general in other island communities including the Falklands and Ascension Island.

The job is a replacement for clerk of the States following a review of the Alderney government aimed at making it more accountable to voters.

Fifty four-year-old barrister Mr Jeremiah was awarded an OBE in the New Year's honours list.

At its meeting later this month, Sir Norman Browse will be sworn in again as president, following his re-election last month.

A vice-president will be chosen by the deputies and members will be given the opportunity to make amendments to the constitutions of island committees.

Two deputies who will represent the island in Guernsey's States must also be selected.
