Rents change 'fairer for tenants'
Guernsey's housing minister has told tenants that changes in rents and rebates will make renting fairer.

Tenants in Guernsey could face a 60 a week rise under housing officials' biggest rents and rebates review yet of the States' 2,100 properties.

If proposals are approved later this month, a three-bedroom house would attract a rental of 137 a week.

Dave Jones said any increases would be spread over three years but admitted it was impossible to please everyone.

Mr Jones said: "There will always be a small group that will not accept whatever we suggest.

"There are winners and losers in our scheme, but 55% of tenants will receive rent decreases.

"Some of the higher earners will pay more, but no-one will be asked to pay more than they can afford."
