German mayor given honorary OBE
A German mayor who has championed reconciliation between his home town and the Channel Islands has been awarded an honorary OBE by the Queen.

Thomas Fettback of Biberach was given the accolade on Her Majesty's recent visit to Germany.

Prisoners of war from the Channel Islands were sent to prison camps at Biberach during World War II.

At a Liberation Day service in Guernsey last year, Oberburgermeister Fettback apologised for the Nazi's actions.

Only UK citizens, or citizens of any country where Queen Elizabeth II is head of state, can receive full honours.
