New rules to speed up politicians
Jersey States
There was some initial criticism when the trials were proposed
Trial rules to speed up political procedures in Jersey States have now become permanent.

They include reducing question time to an hour, allowing only two questions per member and a guillotine motion to cut short lengthy debates.

After debating proposed amendments, only minor changes to the number of words in questions and the deadline for submitting the questions were changed.

The rules have been tested over the past six months.

The trial was strongly criticised as "extremely naive" by Senator Stuart Syvret when it was introduced.

He claimed it would not speed up government, but would stop backbenchers from speaking.
