A new procedure to deal with complaints against Jersey's States Members could soon be in place. It comes after criticism in the States that the Privileges and Procedures Committee should have better arrangements to deal with complaints.
The committee was criticised this week when the States was debating a censure motion against Senator Frank Walker.
Many members said the PPC needed better arrangements for making complaints against fellow politicians.
Quick recommendations
Committee President Roy Le Herrissier said there could be more censure motions in the next few months, and he was hopeful new procedures could soon be in place to deal with them.
He said: "We are obviously going to try to bring forward a procedure so we can act as a tribunal of first resort, one that can come up with quick recommendations and suggest mediation.
"But that is all dependent on the two parties being agreeable.
"But we would hope that by that method we could keep some issues out of the States."
Meanwhile the Jersey senator who brought the vote of censure against Senator Walker, President of Policy & Resources, says he was justified in doing so.
Senator Ted Vibert said he felt vindicated by the result of the debate which he narrowly lost.
He said: "We are talking about fairness, justness and equity and using positions of influence.
"It is the very thing that the people of Jersey have been complaining about for years and this was the first time we were actually able to make the point because we had the evidence to prove it."
